Hole size and location must be carefully considered in any sheet metal design in order to avoid burrs and high punch load, which can be caused by holes smaller than the sheet thickness. To ensure structural integrity during bending or forming operations, the hole-to-hole thickness should be at least two times the material’s thickness. There should be at least twice the sheet thickness in the gap between edge and hole in order for it to work. A hole near the bend should be at least twice as thick in order to allow for a safe bend radius end line distance.
