Sheet Metal Fabrication

Sheet Metal Fabrication Work

Sheet metal fabrication is the process of forming metal into thin and flat sheets and then cutting and bending them into different forms. Sheet metal can be manufactured from a variety of metals, including brass, copper, steel, tin, aluminium and titanium, for example. Platinum, gold and silver may all be used in jewellery design. A wide range of thicknesses can be achieved by using sheet metal, from ultra-thin sheets, such as foil or leaf, to heavier sheets, such as plates, which can be used to build a wide range of items. Gauge is a term used to describe the thickness of metal sheets, which may vary from 30 gauge all the way down to 8 gauge. The thickness of the metal is directly related to the sheet metal gauge.

Sharan Elecmech’s Sheet Metal Fabrication Process

Cutting, shaping and assembling sheet metal are the steps involved in our custom metal fabrication procedures.

Cutting and Bending of Metal Sheets

A variety of hand and power tools, as well as plasma torches from CNC cutters, such as lasers, are used in this process. Sheet metal fabrication can be thought of as a subtractive manufacturing process since the functional elements are created by removing chunks of the metal. The sheet metal may be cut using a variety of machines, some of which are specific to sheet metal manufacturing.

Forming of Metal Sheetss

Forming, as opposed to cutting, removes material from the sheet metal and reshapes and reconfigures the material to the required contours. Bending, stamping, roll forming, stretching and spinning are all forms of forming.

Press brakes are used to bend sheet metal into U-shapes, V-shapes and channels using machinery like this. From 0 to 120 degrees, the angles are possible. It’s more difficult to bend sheet metal that’s thicker in gauge. Decambering may be used to eliminate horizontal bends on sheet metal from strip-shaped components.

Assembling of Metal Sheets

Despite the fact that assembly is not often considered a fabrication process, its role in the production process cannot be understated. For example, nuts and screws are used to join sheet metal components. During the sheet metal production process, holes may be made for rivets, pins and other fasteners using processes like punching. Welding, riveting, brazing and adhesive usage are among the most important assembly techniques.
